Minimoons

Honeymoons are a fabulous way to relax and treat yourself after months - sometimes even years- of wedding planning.

So why a minimoon? Several very good reasons:

- Practicalities:

Not everyone is able to have two weeks off work just after their wedding, so you may decide that your honeymoon will only happen a few weeks or months after your wedding day. If that's a case, escaping immediately after, only for one or two nights, just the two of you, is ideal. It does not prevent you from having your honeymoon later on, it's just a cheeky very well deserved little break for the two of you. Especially if you had a big wedding and spent most of your time with guests, a minimoon will certainly be something to look forward too.

- Cost:

If jetting off to Hawaii is not quite within your budget, there are some wonderful places to visit at a lower financial cost. If you live in the UK, you are very lucky to be on the doorstep of Europe: no need to go far for long, you can go near for one night and yet get to discover some absolutely wonderful places hand in hand.

- Do something different:

While the beach holiday in a luxury hotel seems like a popular honeymoon option, a minimoon can be kept local and still turn out to be an incredible experience with a little creativity. When I got married my husband and I decided to minimoon in London and it was one of the best ideas we ever had. Saving on the cost of flights allowed us to live it up here, spending the night in an absolutely incredible room in a yacht hotel on the Thames (after a river theme wedding), and doing things we never did before: walking on the O2 just after our wedding was certainly a great quirky way to start married life.

- You can go to Barcelona

I know I did say that you can go anywhere, but seriously, I went to Barcelona recently and it is one of the most magnificient cities to spend some romantic time; it is truly amazing. I took the pictures on this post in only two days in beautiful Barcelona, hopefully they give an idea of what it can be like to explore these streets and mountains.

So what do you think? Are you going for minimoon, a honeymoon, or both?
